About

We were here for the first time in 1993. We were impressed by the surroundings, the countryside, the people, Italian design and culture. But Santarcangelo di Romagna was, above all, the miracle itself, which carried both tradition and love of life.

Many houses in Romagna have a “Giuggiolo” (Jujuba) tree. Ours too. It grows out of the house wall, defies the elements and produces an abundant harvest (” Giuggiole” fruits) in autumn.

Those who visit it all look at it, taste its fruit and are happy that it is there. We also. Giving way to this joy, we named the house after those fruits “Casa Datolya”, which means Giuggiole (Jujubes) in Hungarian.

SANTARCANGELO

Santarcangelo

Santarcangelo di Romagna is a fabulous small medieval town, not only because of its traditional, excellent restaurants and numerous art festivals, antiques, weekly markets and elegant shops, but also because of its optimal location. And that's not all. Because Santarcangelo is a” Città Slow”.

The name, derived from the Italian "city" (Città) and the English "Slow”, covers the development of a new urban trend at the turn of the millennium. According to the idea, Città Slow recognizes that the rush has become the decisive factor in all aspects of life, and that this rush makes our cities increasingly noisy and stressful, and tries to present an alternative - the "slow city" - by developing the conditions for quality urban life. "Slow City" is about creating re-humanized, more ecologically correct environmental conditions, rethinking the relationship between food production and the settlement, and the renaissance of communal spaces.

Stepping out of the house, you will be surrounded by silence in the winding alley of the old part, impressed by the view of the hills and the landscape. Then, walking down the castle wall in the crowded little streets full of bars and shops, “dolce vita” surrounds you.

Santarcangelo also hides a mysterious history underground, where rooms, wells and tunnels form another city beneath the visible, which consists of 160 caves. This is where they hid, lived and stored in the Middle Ages during attacks. There are cellars dug into the “Tufo” (Tuff) that are still in use today and can be visited.
